Hello and welcome to today’s vlog on how to open a real estate agency in Australia. With a booming real estate industry across Australia, there’s no better time than now to start your own real estate agency. However, you might be feeling anxious and nervous about taking the first step. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
There are three key elements that you need to consider when opening your own real estate agency in Australia: research, learn and prepare. Let’s dive in!
First, you need to research opening a real estate agency. While your personal experience is valuable, you need to seek advice from the right people. Look for transferable knowledge and judge success in a meaningful way. You also need to get your legal responsibilities sorted, as there are a lot of decisions to make that require legal assistance. Finally, you need to think about marketing your agency’s brand, coming up with a name, and registering and trademarking it.
Next, you need to learn the ropes before launching your business. Work out which skills and knowledge you need to outsource to an employee and which ones you’ll need to do yourself. This might include building the website for your agency, setting up social media accounts, and establishing an online presence.
Finally, you need to prepare the foundations and develop a business plan. Download an Australian Government business plan template ( https://business.gov.au/planning/business-plans/develop-your-business-plan ) and start working on it, even if you’re still undecided about some aspects of your new agency. The business plan includes stating your vision and mission, your target market and competition, and how you’ll advertise and promote your agency.
Additionally, to run your own real estate agency, you need to complete a real estate agent course. The courses can differ depending on the state or territory in which you reside; however, all courses must be undertaken with a registered training organisation (RTO).
For example, in Victoria, you need to complete the Diploma of Property (Agency Management) and the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice to obtain your full real estate licence and be qualified to run your own agency. In New South Wales, the Diploma of Property (Agency Management) qualifies you to be granted a Licence Class one, which will put you behind the wheel of owning and running your own real estate agency.
